Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising is here and proving popular!!!
90% of all website traffic is derived from the top 30 results of search engine positions, with 80% of that traffic coming from the top 10 positions alone.
With the daily increase of new websites appearing the sheer number of results returned for a particular keyword or phrase can often run into the millions. Obviously with this many results, competition for the top 10 positions is fierce and so a new form of search engine positioning has been developed, called Pay Per Click.
PPC means that numerous individuals or business’s can "bid" on chosen keywords or phrases of words that a website visitor would type into a search engine in order to return websites matching their chosen search term.
As an example, two business’s Jack and Jill are selling mobile phones. They both think that the term "cheap mobile phones" would get them the targeted traffic they need in order to increase their sales of mobile phones.
Jack sets up an account with a PPC search engine and bids 5p per hit that he takes from a visitor from this search engine using this keyword phrase. Jill on the other hand has bid 4p and that is what she pays if she takes a hit to her site.
Because Jack has bid more than Jill then Jack's website appears above Jill's in the search positions for this keyword and consequently is likely to get more hits to his website than Jill.
Let's do some Maths!
If you were up against Jack and Jill for the search term "Cheap mobile phones" and wanted to attain the top position you would have to bid 6p (Jack has bid 5p). You only pay for the hits that you take so you know that to get 100 clicks to your website will cost you £6.
You can bid on multiple keywords or search terms at different rates depending on how popular you believe the terms to be or how targeted the traffic will be from those terms. The more targeted the traffic the more likely the clicks will lead to sales, thus increasing your conversion rates.
Currently Overture UK sites are featured within Alta Vista, Wanadoo, Lycos, MSN, Tiscali & Yahoo! This combined with our Web Positioning Service gives good coverage of search engines in this competitive environment.
There are a number of PPC search engines but by far the most productive is Google Adwords and Yahoo Search (formally Overture). There is a minimum bid requirement and an account set up fee may also apply.
There are strict guidelines to adhere to in submitting your sites in terms of what is and isn't allowed so you need to ensure your site complies with these.
As you can see from the logo at the top, we are pleased to be able to offer A Google Adwords Qualified service.
