- A look back at 2005, a look forward to 2006
2005 was once again another good year for our clients and ourselves, having experienced a period of steady growth in online site activity. The Christmas retail figures typically reflect the trends we are experiencing in various sectors, with UK online retail up 50% from £2.4billion in 2004 to over £5billlion in 2005 and online Food purchase is also up from 5% to 17% of this spend. Christmas shopping online has also shown a massive 50% increase.
With most of our customers now enjoying the benefits of our custom built Content Management Systems (CMS), we will continue to develop this as our core service and expand the integration of such with other complementary systems such as Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Accounts utilities. With it primarily being software developed in house and coupled with managed hosting, we offer greater flexibility to give solutions tailored to match requirements as closely as possible with minimal compromise & ease of use. This remains our main aim. With the combination of such systems and online marketing services, we continue to offer a powerful suite of online utilities for maximum return. Thoughts will be turning to development and promotional strategies for the coming year and we will be offering considerations for you in future communications. You will be kept informed of emerging techniques well in advance via our Newsletters, exclusive client bulletins and your admin centre so keep watching your admin centre for further updates.
To recap on some of the trends and figures referred to last year, it is interesting to note that the UK is now Europe's largest broadband market with 9.8 million high-speed Internet users, according to research by industry analyst Point Topic. This allows websites to embrace rich media such as streaming Video but careful application is still key.
3G (Mobile Broadband) has continued to develop but as we predicted, has suffered a slow take-up due to poor coverage and complexity of usage. Mobile TV seems popular during tests but again reliable access could be an issue along with rights agreements, which could delay progress to the mass market for some years.
2005 remained big for website Content Management and online Customer Relationship Management (CRM), making site updates easy for the owner while enhancing the online experience for the site user.
Email has suffered reduced response rates partly due to ISP's now adopting tough Anti-Spam measures to the point of blocking email, which contain images. The Blog (Web log) has also grown in popularity as a marketing and PR tool but again careful application and management has been key. Affiliate Marketing & PPC is still maturing while the web continues to attract increased marketing spend.
I hope the above information gives food for thought and on this note we very much look forward to working with you in the coming 12 months, so here's wishing you a Happy, Healthy & Prosperous 2006.
